You paid a lot of money for your carpets and chances are you want them to last for many years to come. Here are some simple tips for keeping your carpets looking great

You should vacuum your carpets at least twice a week. The dirt that gets into your carpets from your shoes acts like sand paper against the carpet fibers and slowly wears the fabric down over time. By removing the dirt on a regular basis you are greatly improving your carpets life span.

Before you vacuum you should use a carpet rake to rake the carpet. This does not need to be done every time you vacuum but doing using a carpet rake one or two times a month is a good idea. Your carpet gets matted down from walking on it and creates pockets that trap in dirt. By using a carpet rake you turn those carpet fibers vertical again and thus opening up those pockets so you’re vacuum will do a better job pulling the dirt out of the carpets.

You should get your carpets cleaned at least one to two times a year. Even if the carpets do not look that dirty getting them professionally cleaned is the best way to minimize those high traffic areas and to get rid of those stains before they sit too long. Be sure to check and see if the carpet cleaners lay down a floor sealant like scotch guard. By re-sealing the carpet you will minimize the oil and dirt from sticking to it.

It is a good idea to take your shoes off before you walk on the carpet. Everything you step in outside will be tracked onto your carpets if you do not and it quickly adds up. When walking on your carpet always try and wear socks or slippers. If you walk on the carpet with your bear feet the oils from your skin rub off on the carpet fibers.
